The Beach consists of nine beautifully presented executive apartments situated in a prominent beachside location in the village of Porth, which is within walking distance of the centre of Newquay. There are good public transport facilities in Newquay which also has a wide range of high street shops and public amenities, including a leisure centre, colleges and various other community facilities. The nearby beaches are some of the best in the country.
The Beach provides accommodation for up to fifteen individuals. Each south-facing apartment is able to accommodate a maximum of two residents, but offers the flexibility for single person services if they are required. Each apartment has a balcony with views over the beach, an open plan lounge with dining and kitchen areas, two bedrooms (one en-suite and the other with a dedicated private bathroom), and a utility room. There is telephone and internet access in each apartment. The Beach also provides a communal lounge for the use of everyone, so individuals can enjoy a combination of private living and the opportunity to interact with others and develop their social relationships. There is an open recreational space to the rear of the building.
One of the apartments has been tailored to suit persons who wish to live more independently but still within a residential framework. This is particularly relevant for people who wish to move into their own homes in the near future but who require some additional security and support before making the step. This apartment has its own entrance, two bedrooms with their own bathrooms, and an open-plan kitchen, diner and living room with balcony overlooking the beach. Although separate from the other flats, there is an intercom connection with the main house, where the communal areas are available for social contact.
The staff team has an on-going training programme which is designed to meet the needs of the service users within Spectrum. Training is monitored and routinely refreshed to ensure that all team members are working to the same consistently high standards and that each service user is safe, healthy and happy. All team members work to person-centred planning principles to ensure that the service users’ own aspirations and needs are understood and fulfilled.
